The players on the Emberstorm and Whirlwind battlegroups have had a rough week . A massive power outage, huge network issues and other problems have forced them away from their virtual homes to find refuge elsewhere. Some have joined the It came from the Blog guild on Zangarmarsh, where we have had two impromptu server outage parties . The picture above is from Tuesday night’s shindig. Others have commented in the outage posts that they have formed level 1 raids on other servers. And of course there are other games to play. Personally, if both Zangarmarsh and my main server are down, I figure it’s time to start watching what’s on the DVR and knitting . What do you do when your server is down? There are more server outages hitting this afternoon, unfortunately impacting the same realms that were down for around ten hours last night . The Seattle datacenter was hit with a nasty power outage yesterday, but we currently don’t know the reasons for the current downtime. There are no blue responses yet, but my gut says there’s some lingering damage that will need to be dealt with this afternoon. Then again, we might be lucky and they’ll be back in ten minutes. Who knows with these things? Keep an eye on WoW.com and we’ll keep you posted should we hear anything. If you’re not sure if you’re part of one of these battlegroups, the full list is behind the cut. Update #1: Blizzard is aware of the issue . Not much else at the moment. Update #2: Looks like most servers are coming up. Our poor friends on Quel’Dorei are still down for the count. Update #3: Maintenance on these realms not necessarily ‘done’ says Malkorix . Update 11:57pm: Both battlegroups went down 12 minutes ago. More as we know it. Update 12:18am: Blizzard says they are working on it and that any compensation will come after the problems have been resolved. I honestly did not think there would be any story this week bigger than the microtransactional action of the Blizzard Pet Store (and it’s totally going to ruin the game you guys, seriously ), but apparently I thought too soon. This very night, as I write this, the servers are in chaotic disarray at the premature issuance of what appears to be a minor patch (sorry, it’s not Patch 3.3 ), causing many people to be completely unable to log into the game. It has been sorted out as of this writing, or should be by the time the servers are back up this morning . Still, I know it soured a lot of people’s gaming plans for the night. Oh well, that’s what Dragon Age is for, I say. In the meantime, if you’re stuck waiting for the servers to come back up and you don’t have access to Dragon Age , might I suggest catching up on your WoW news reading? Here’s a selection of stuff from the past 7 days or so: Continue reading Tuesday Morning Post: Premature Patching edition Filed under: Realm Status , Odds and ends , News items Tuesday Morning Post: Premature Patching edition originally appeared on WoW.com on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 07:00:00 EST. Heres an article I found when surfing all about NYT: GAPP and Ministry of Culture clashing over Chinese WoW regulation

The New York Times has brought its journalistic bear to the story earlier this week about China deciding not to approve WoW ’s release over there under new service provider Netease, and it seems what we thought was confusion between two agencies has turned into a war. One one side, you have the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), who earlier this week said that Netease ( WoW ’s local provider of Blizzard’s game in China) could not legally be collecting subscriptions on a game that GAPP hadn’t yet approved. But on the other side is the Ministry of Culture , who did approve WoW ’s content when it was run by The9 , and are now saying that GAPP “overstepped its authority” by thinking it could “penalize online gaming” at all. Which means that the silly game of World of Warcraft has fallen smack dab in between two government agencies lobbying for power. In the past, says the NYT, GAPP has approved games pre-release, and the Ministry of Culture has overseen games once they’ve started running online. But WoW is a weird exception (it has been online for a few years already, and only went offline when Blizzard switched providers), and it looks like both agencies are grabbing for power and the sizable fees that come along with regulation. If they continue to clash, it’ll be up to the State Council, China’s cabinet, to determine who’s in charge. And the NYT says if that happens, the Ministry of Culture has the edge, with lots of friends in the cabinet already. Meanwhile, Netease hasn’t taken the game offline yet , apparently — they still haven’t been given official notice to do so. There’s no word on how long this will take to shake out, but even China’s players are tired of the fighting; they just want to get back into Azeroth and play. Thanks to everyone who sent this in! A little while ago, 2 am Paris time, servers went down in the EU for emergency maintenance. More specifically, ” emergency database maintenance .” They’re estimated to be down until 4 am Paris time, which by my estimate is another hour or so. Should that maintenance be extended any further, we’ll be sure to let you know right here on WoW.com. Many thanks to our followers on Twitter for alerting us of this downtime, because our European staff members are apparently off doing silly things like sleeping. Thanks a lot , guys. Because of that, I’m now inflicting cultural stereotypes on you all in the form of the picture at the top of this post. Don’t take your rage out on me, take it out on the warlock .
