Blacksmithing 525 And Illustrious – What Changes Can We Expect?

With Cataclysm fast approaching, let’s have a look at what we might expect from the expansion, in particular the effect it will have on the Blacksmithing profession with the introduction of the new tier and Level 525 Illustrious.

As is often the case, the developers are keeping a lot back before the release, but what we have been told so far seems to suggest there will be a new axiom added to the professions mix with Archaeology providing some interesting choices for the budding crafter.

The way it has been couched so far, it seems as if we may be actually given the option to add items to the recipe to improve their stats, or not as the case may be.

This seems pretty straight forward, but presents a radical departure from the way things have been done in the past. Level 525 Illustrious Blacksmithing will present more choices to the crafter than any tier of the profession so far in the game.

This is one way that the developers can add variation to the crafted weapons and armour in the game without having to create many more graphic models of the items.

Expect the interaction between crafting professions to be a real feature when Cataclysm hits. You will find that many items can only be crafted with reagents sourced from other professions as Blizzard looks to integrate them all into some kind of symbiosis. I expect this to be similar to the way that that say you currently make the rods for Enchanters etc.

The race to level 525 Illustrious Blacksmithing will be keen. The top tier items available by normal Blacksmith training may well prove to be at their most profitable for a short period of time before players replace them with items looted from new dungeons and instances. With this in mind, getting characters levelled up in the support profession of mining – and possibly archaeology – might be a wise move.

I think many long term Blacksmiths are hoping that the profession is given a boost this time. WotLK added a very unbalanced tier to the craft, not even allowing you to make a decent tanking weapon, which is (after all) one of the main reasons many people took the Blacksmithing route in the first place.

Cataclysm will bring change with it. I hope we can all look forward to having a great time reaching level 525 Illustrious Blacksmithing.

Do We Need Better Character Customization in Warcraft?

I don’t know about you, but rolling a new character in Warcraft is always something I do with mixed emotions.

Sure I’m really looking forward to exploring the possibilities of a new class combination, but first I need to fix my mind. I have done this many, many times in the past. Do I want to do it all again?

Well, of course I want to. I could wait for all the changes that will come with Cataclysm of course, this will refresh the early levelling process no end.

However, once I actually get into the character generation screen, another problem. The characters themselves. They all seem so limited.

How dull and uninspired the preset character faces and styles are.

Rolling a human really brings it home to me. There seems very little choice, and what choice there is – is between characterizations that really do not appeal to me at all. I mean, this is a face and character I’ll be playing for hour after hour. It would be nice if it was an enjoyable spectacle.

Back in 2005, the limitations were excusable. Both the ability of computers to draw and render good facial expressions was more limited, then there was the issue of broadband speed being generally several factors slower than it is now, making the caching and uploading of many different facial designs an issue.

Another counter argument is that once people get to the level cap it’s all about the armour. I agree with that – but even that’s a shame. There is only one tier 10 BiS for each class/talent combination so you still end up with very similar looking characters at the end of the game.

Now there are any number of games, many by publishers with a fraction of the resources available to Blizzard, who let you customize everything right down to the shade of pink on your new characters nail polish.

So how about it then Blizzard, what about letting us design the style and look of characters we actually would like to play?

Sadly, having seen the trailers so far for Cataclysm, it isn’t something they are considering any time soon.

This change in the game will do just enough cooking to be a simpler procedure for you, which was probably Blizzards goal in the first place. No other training will have at this point.

When you have your fire began to open the magic book and find the cook. When you open your cookbook, look for recipes and choose the one you want to try. Keep in mind that your fire will burn for a few minutes. Now is the time to cook something. With your cookbook open to choose a recipe to make, and then click the right ingredients for this recipe. You will then start to cook. Take note that some recipes will require you to buy their components before you can create.

When it first starts to boil will not have access to many components, which allows you to create more advanced recipes. To get through the initial period and the beginner level 1 to 375, the best start in Ironforge. In Ironforge, buy 1 meal, 1 mild spices, and these two items, you will be able to cook Spiced Bread. World of Warcraft Mage Guide

The Mage is the king of the burst DPS in World of Warcraft and are desired by most groups because of their damage output, intelligence buff, and the possibility of health and mana regeneration of food and drink provided.

While the Mage is definitely a power house in the DPS department they generally hit points are missing. Some classes such as Warrior, Paladin, Death Knight wear heavy armor and have a large amount of hit points and can last many gangs. Other classes like Priest, Druid, Shaman and have the ability to heal itself when it gets difficult. Rogues can vanish, and the Hunters and Warlocks have their pet to absorb damage. The Mage has none of these. They have low hit points, wear cloth armor, can not heal itself, and have no pets. As the Mage has the control and it is something you must learn how to use when leveling your Mage.

Like all the classes in World of Warcraft Mage has three skill trees. These are Arcane, Fire and Frost. The first two quantities can cause massive damage, but lack of control. The Fire and Arcane trees is little in the form of crowd control. Of course, all characters have the Mage infamous ’sheep’ power, but only Frost for added control.

If you specialize in frost might not be the great battle of the other trees, but you have much more control over the situation. Some talents give your Chill effects a chance to freeze the target for a short period of time, increasing your Chill effects time, the lower the rate of movement of the target and stun your audience. This tree is excellent for solo Mage Leveling.

One of the tactics you would use the level to get to an area with a large number of gangs in one general area. To secure you a green area where the crowd are here to pick. Start collecting them and if your number one around your pop Frost Nova and roots in place. Go back in melee range and cut loose with Blizzard. This is a tactic I used on a number Mage characters I’ve built over the years and it really works.

I know there are people who will tell you to do your own level gangs, but I beg to differ. Let’s play two different scenarios.

In the first scenario we will head out to an area mob my level. As they become too hard and I have tissue paper for armor I will not be able to hunt and will in effect be forced to kill one at a time. Since my level they have more hit points and it takes longer to nuke them down, and after every kill I need to sit down and drink some drinks before I could involve the following. For each of these kills will just say I get 200 experience points. For the sake of argument let’s say I can kill a mob every 3 minutes, so that would 20 per hour. Total Experience per hour would be 4000.

Scenario two is a little different will. I go to an area with many bands that are green to me. I pick up 5 at a time, around them, they freeze to the ground and use Blizzard. Every mob I kill only gives 100 experience points. In this area I can pull 1 every 3 minutes as I mentioned, but for the same amount of mana I have slain mob 5 against the one above. Sure they only give 100 experience points, but 5 x 100 = 500 versus 200 as above. Let us suppose I need to pull as I mentioned in one hours time. Instead of 4,000 points that I earned 10,000 experience. Add to these numbers the fact that I 100 slain and plundered every crowd. Which method makes more money?

Standing over 8″ tall and weighing in at 4.5 lbs, this guy is built to impress. The detailing is beyond anything I’ve seen on my previous DC Unlimited figures . Blizzard has done a lot of press regarding the fifth anniversary of the game (and there’s probably more to come), but Curse has done one of the more interesting pieces so far . Instead of just chatting with Cory Stockton about his experiences, they had him sit down and explain just how Blizzard puts an instance together. They specifically talked about Ulduar, but the process Stockton reveals works for all of the instances Blizzard has created for the game. A few interesting things — they “block out” the instances first, create lower-res versions of them to play around in and create the mechanics for the fights. They also do some boss testing outside of the environments — Razorscale, specifically, says Stockton, was actually tested down in the Stranglethorn Arena . Finally, once the encounter team works out the basics of the encounters, the art and item teams move in, and create art and loot, sometimes with the two of them collaborating (the art team will make a cool item for a boss, and then the item team, with the help of Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, will give the item stats and balance). Interesting just how collaborative the whole process is — even the Ironbound Proto-drake mount came from the team seeing Razorscale and wanting to put him in mount form. It’s nice and all hearing Blizzard remember the Fry’s launch, but it’s nicer getting an inside look at their process. Monday wasn’t only the fifth anniversary of World of Warcraft , it also kicked off the 15th anniversary of the Warcraft property at large (which makes sense — you might remember that the original WoW intro started off with “Ten Years of Warcraft “). And so Blizzard has created a brand new minisite to commemorate the occasion — they’ve got a full video interview with many of the staff members (no women, though, Blizzard — what’s the deal there?), and there are other Blizzard and community interviews coming as well. They’ve also got a feature called the “Battlecry Mosaic,” in which they’re inviting fans to take pictures of themselves showing Horde or Alliance pride with printable logos, which will then be assembled into a mosaic of up to 20,000 pictures. That should be a sight to see — it’ll eventually all be posted online, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like it at the next BlizzCon also. Neth also says that whoever reaches set limits on pictures will get a faction exclusive piece of art revealed . Sounds fun. I thought for a moment that this was what the Warcraft twitter account was referring to the other day, but they specifically said whatever they were talking about would be revealed on 11/25, and obviously that’s still in the future. So we’ll have to see what else appears this week. Still, the minisite is an excellent homepage for Blizzard’s look back at their first and biggest franchise. Especially if you’re a Warcraft fan, it’s a must-see.
