Torment of the Worgen. Details of the New Class in Warcraft Catalysm.
Creeping just outside of Darkshire, I had been set a quest to kill the Worgen in the Woods by a member of the night watch (No – not Sam Vimes, that would have been cool though). Duskwood was a dark scary area. The first I had come across after the lightness of Elwynn Forest, Westfall and Redridge
I reached the brow of a crest of land that looked over a dark grassed area and spotted the Worgen for the first time. The quest was rated as level 23, but this was going to be tough even at level 25. It\’s no exaggeration to say that this area changed Warcraft for me. It probably was one of the main reasons that I love this game. Wiping these mobs was tough. At the time I had not heard of the torment of the Worgen, but I doubt that would have made much difference.
So from patch 4.0 and Cataclysm onwards, you will be able to play Worgen. They become an Alliance race. Me? I\’m going to re-roll a team of Worgen the minute the patch hits. The details we know so far look great.
The number of classes each race can play has increased steadily, and will grow further with Cataclysm. The Worgen start off with a good selection.
Druid, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Warlock and Warrior and of course, you could roll a Death Knight if you meet the criteria.
Worgen Druid, that\’s a combination that makes the mind boggle. Given that Worgen can shape change anyway, and druids as well, you\’ll have a lot of options.
The Worgen you see with Cataclysm and 4.0 are not the same character models we have seen on Warcraft so far. Although recognisable, these are far more detailed models, with much greater animation than the existing NPC\’s.
As for the racial traits.
Two Forms – The Two Forms ability will allow Worgen\’s to change between their Human and Worgen forms. This is largely a means of changing your appearance, rather than any form of combat. When entering back into combat, the character will immediately revert back to Worgen form.
Flayer – An as yet undecided boost to skinning speed and a 15 point buff to skinning skill. This makes sense
Aberration – This passive trait will reduce the duration of all curses and diseases by 15% – a great tool for PvP.
Viciousness – A simple 1% increase in damage. Not DPS but damage. This perhaps is of most benefit to 2-handers and quick weapon users who will get more from this 1% than others.
Darkflight – The Darkflight a huge 70% speed increase that lasts 6 seconds. Depending on how long the cooldown is, and how this is activated, this may be a fantastic tool for Rogues.
With a whole new starting area of Gilneas near to Silverpine Forest, the introduction of the Worgen is something I\’m very much looking forward to.
