Multi Boxing in Warcraft. Renewing Your Interest With A More Involving Gamestyle
Ok, let\’s get this out in the open. I play several characters at once in Warcraft.
There I said it; I have five Warcraft accounts at the moment, and play 3 or 5 characters at once. If you do the same then you will know the hassle you get for it.
\”You\’re botting\” and \”cheat\” are a couple of the more miss-informed messages I get. In a way I sort of understand. Sort of
I understand that, if you are out levelling up or grinding for gold or whatever, it can seem a little harsh to be suddenly set upon by either.
Ganking you to kingdom come or;
Having the area you are farming invaded and cleared out within minutes leaving you like meerkat staring over a bleak wilderness that you were quite happily harvesting in until seconds before.
Here\’s the point though. Blizzard administer the game on an account basis not a player basis (and certainly not a \”character\” basis) that means all accounts are born equal. If one real world player has 5 accounts, then each one is a separate entity. All 5 are allowed the same previledges.
So when you are in a PvP area and a team of five individual players gank you, Blizzard treat that just the same as when a single player with several accounts ganks you. There is no difference to them. Each one is five accounts. Paid for, and just as valid as each other. IN fact one player controlling 5 characters is normally a lot less efficient. It\’s not that easy you know.
In Warcraft, and PvP in particular, these things happen.
So Blizzard does not differentiate between times when 5 individual players walk up to you and gank you, and when I, controlling 5 characters together do the same. The difference being that the 5 individuals would probably be a little better. It\’s quite a bit harder to co-ordinate 5 characters at once.
Then, there is of course the common accusation of \”botting\”. And this needs to be cleared up. Multi boxing is not botting. Every action that all 5 characters perform is initiated by a key press or other in game action by the controlling player.
Botting required that the game play without interaction from the player.
Yes, macros are often used, but anyone can use macros. They are fully supported by Blizzard, who shows you how to make them, and, if you read through Blizzard\’s own Macro help, they are mildly surprised that more people don\’t use them.
If you have reported a multiboxer to Blizzard you will probably have been told they have no issue with it. That is the official line. They get asked quite a bit. Often by people who have just been pwned in PvP by multi boxers. The estimates say that the 11 million Warcraft accounts currently live, are owned by 9.8 million players. Multi account owning and multi boxing is more common than many think.
\’Boxers make up almost 10% of the population, and the figure seems likely to grow.
Myself, I played normally for three years, then as Blizzard made the game simpler and simpler I needed the extra challenge of, first two boxing then multi boxing to keep me occupied in the game. It was getting to the stage with one character that I could play internet poker, listen to music and be on the mobile to my wife, whilst finishing a heroic. One character at a time was no where near satisfying enough. If Blizzard banned multiboxing (and they won\’t) I would leave Warcraft for something with more depth.
If you want to reduce the number of multiboxers ask Blizzard to increase the depth of game play.
Over the years Blizzard have eased up the difficulty on everything from levelling and instances, right through to professions and travel. Will they reverse this?
